German Property Federation (ZIA)
The German Property Federation (ZIA) is the leading umbrella association for the property sector. With its registered office in Berlin and a European office in Brussels, it speaks through its about 400 members, including 30 associations, on behalf of approximately 37,000 industry companies right across the value chain. ZIA provides comprehensive, unified representation for the interests of the real estate sector in all its diversity at both national and European level, including as a member of the Federation of German Industries (BDI) and the German Economic Institute (IW). The President of the association is Iris Schöberl.
Representing the interests of the entire sector
With about 810,000 companies and approximately 3.5 million employees, the real estate sector is one of the largest and most dynamic in Germany. It generated approximately 730 billion euros in 2023, approximately 20% of Germany’s gross value added and therefore more than the automotive sector, for example. The sector is aware of its role in climate protection and therefore reduced its CO2 emissions from 210 to 102 million tons per annum between 1990 and 2023.
ZIA represents the whole property sector along its entire value chain. The interests of planners, developers, construction companies, operators, real estate portfolio holders, brokers, consultants and service providers in all property-related issues can be voiced here. Numerous associations in the property and finance industry have meanwhile combined together under ZIA’s umbrella.
The sector’s most important companies are represented on ZIA’s committees. The concentration of this expertise enables ZIA to act in a consultancy capacity by offering comprehensive know-how and information to politicians and the public.
ZIA’s commitment to the property industry
ZIA’s members are linked through a reliable network comprising regional and federal associations. Around 500 experts from the member companies’ senior management act on the committees as experts, for instance in a parliamentary hearings and legislation procedures. ZIA represents the sector at prestigious international and domestic conferences, events and trade fairs. In organising “The Real Estate Industry Day”, ZIA has established the largest annual gathering of the property industry.
ZIA possesses special expertise in the area of finance and tax policies. The organisation is characterised by its strong capital market orientation. Many companies have committed to economic, ecological and socially sustainable conduct based on the sustainability code developed by ZIA.
